Forest-tundra, Kamchatka. 360° meditation
The forest tundra is a transition zone located on the border between the tundra and the taiga.
The forest tundra climate is characterized by short, cool summers and long, harsh winters. In the winter months, the temperature does not rise above -40 °C, winter lasts up to eight months. The average temperature in summer is up to +15 °C.
In the forest tundra, sparse forests of larch, spruce and birch, typical of river valleys, alternate with moss-lichen vegetation in the interfluves. The soils are tundra-gley and peat-bog, poor in humus.
The vegetation of the forest tundra is diverse: buttercups, bright globeflowers and fragrant valerian bloom on the slopes of the river valleys in summer. Blueberries, bilberries, cranberries, cloudberries, arctic raspberries and lingonberries grow here.
The animal world is diverse: deer, wolves, bears, foxes and many species of birds.
