Kefalonia, Greece

Greece is a land shrouded in legends. Today we will walk around Kefalonia: it is the largest island in the Ionian group. It is named after the mythological hero Cephalus. The word "kephalos" means "head": Cephalus is considered the founder of a great family, which included Odysseus.

Every corner here is incredibly attractive and interesting. One of the most visited places is the village of Assos - a small "pearl" surrounded by greenery. In addition to the beaches, it enchants with its ancient atmosphere. On its main square and narrow streets rise carefully restored historical houses, and the main attraction is the Venetian fortress, built in the 16th century to protect against pirates.

About 13 kilometers to the south is Myrtos: the most famous beach of Kefalonia. It is among the ten most beautiful beaches in the world!

A steep serpentine road leads to it, and then a secluded bay opens up with water of an incredible milky blue color, with white sand and white pebbles. This is the calling card of all of Kefalonia: images of the beach can be seen on posters, calendars, postcards, souvenirs.

This is the western part of the island, and on the eastern side there is an unusual place that cannot be ignored: the Drogarati cave. It was discovered 300 years ago, when an earthquake destroyed part of it, thus creating an entrance. At a depth of about 60 meters, there is a hall measuring 65 x 45 meters, 20 meters high. In the hot summer months, a comfortable temperature of + 18 ° C is maintained here. It is allowed to visit - and not only! Due to the excellent acoustics, concerts are held here, and this is also one of the few caves in the world where lighting is installed - so we can better see this magnificent creation of nature.
